The Engagement

Matthew planned a romantic surprise date for the two of us in San Francisco. Of course, I had been telling him I wanted to see Wicked, so I was pretty sure that was where he was taking me. Well Friday night was a long one, so Saturday morning got off to a slow start. After a little farmers market, a couple of beers and some lunch, we finally headed out to San Francisco.

We finally got out to San Francisco around 4:30 with dinner reservations at 5:30. Of course neither of us were ready. Wouldn't you know it, we checked in to the Hilton but our keys would not work to get into the room. By the time we finally were able to get into the room it was already 5:00. So as I am frantically trying to get ready, Matthew wants a hug?

I stop what I am doing to give Matthew a hug, after all he had planned this super special evening for me, but I did not stop thinking about how I was going to do my hair. Matthew says to me "Baby I love you" and of course I say "I love you too", trying to get back to doing my hair. Then Matthew says "I wanted to make this day extra special", he gets down on one knee and asks "I also wanted to know if you would marry me?" In my defense, Matthew has said all of these things to me before (albeit not on his knee) so I still did not really understand that this time he was serious. Then he pulled out the ring. I had to check to make sure it was real and not just some sort of evil joke. Slightly shocked, I put on the ring and I hugged him and I kissed him, but I guess I forgot to actually say "yes". So he says to me "so are you going to answer me" and I say "well I put on the ring". A few hours later I finally told him "Yes Matthew I will MARRY YOU!!!"

The rest of the evening was spectacular. We went to Fish and Farm for dinner and we had champagne. Then we went to see Wicked, which was funny and entertaining and wonderful (although I spent quite a bit of the night just looking at my ring). After the show we went to Bourbon and Branch for a cocktail and then Lori's Diner for dessert. It was a magical evening.
